Ebony Ivory, Inc.
Ebony Ivory, Inc. is a non-profit
organization that was established in 1996 by a group of concerned Wal-Mart
Distribution Center co-workers who provided financial support for an exceptional
academic student who desired a college education but lacked funding because of
economic status.
This act of compassion served as the springboard and catalyst
for assisting and encouraging outstanding underserved students who are
economically challenged in completing their college education.
The mission of Ebony Ivory, Inc. is to provide academic
assistance and direction to economically challenged students who are at-risk of
earning a higher education because of a lack of initial funding. The primary
focus of Ebony Ivory, Inc. is to formulate a system for annually awarding these
students for academic and special related achievements and to help identify
scholarship sources other than those given by the corporation. Ebony Ivory Inc.
keeps a current connection with the local, state, and national educational
agencies and organizations to maximize all financial opportunities.
As the coalition of supporters grew, the Ebony Ivory Ball was
established as an annual event by which outstanding students were recognized and
awarded scholarships. Because the Ebony Ivory Ball supporters were from
different southern states, the Ball has been held in Louisiana, Texas, Florida,
Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama.
All candidates for scholarship selection must meet the
guidelines and selection criteria/procedure, and all biographical information
must be reviewed by the selection committee. The selection committee is
responsible for selecting each recipient; establish official contact and
communication with the business office of each institution and to administer a
follow-up program for all students. All scholarship money is distributed towards
academic related registration and fees and will be made payable to the attending
institution in the form of a cashier's check.
